Iberian pigs for the ham (jamon)

Spain is famous for its unique gastronomy. One of the favorite delicacies of residents and guests of Madrid is ham (jamon). It is no secret that it is made of the pork. But what gives jamon its incredible taste?

The meat of Iberian pigs is used to make jamon. These pigs live in the great forests with broad oaks. Iberian pigs often have to change their “residence”, as it’s not easy for them to find food.

Iberian pigs are very different from ours. This is a short animal of a black coloring, narrow eyes, elongated snout and high limbs, which makes their pasture easier. As the poor pigs often have to dig the ground looking for something to eat, their spine became concaved. Now there are only 6 kinds of Iberian pigs, 3 of which are endangered.

Jamon Iberico has an unusual taste of nut, as the main food of Iberian pigs is acorns. That’s why Jamon Iberico is so expensive and unique.

Don’t miss the chance to try Jamon Iberico, as it’s not a simple sausage or meat product, but a real masterpiece of Spanish cuisine!
