Epiphany (Reyes Magos)

Epiphany (Reyes Magos)

As we know, Spain is the country of endless fun and holidays. And even though the New Year and Christmas are over, you shouldn’t be sad about it! 6th of January is the day of celebration of Los Reyes Magos (Epiphany).
According to the legend, three East Kings- Balthasar, Melchior and Caspar, gave the newborn Jesus special gifts. And the today’s children also look forward to the sweet gifts from Magi on this day. In the evening before the holiday kids are preparing to get the surprises. They place their boots in plain sight, together with the sweets for the Magi and some hay for the camels they travel on. To thank children, Balthasar, Melchior and Caspar leave the gifts that they open in the morning with excitement.
However, the adults also don’t get bored on that holiday. On the 5th of January, the day before “Los Reyes Magos”, each city of Spain starts a festive procession, so-called “Cabalgata de los Reyes” (Cavalcade of the Magi). The arrival of the Magi in the procession is usually very bright and memorable. They appear either on the mobile stages or on the horses. This is where the fun begins – the Magi throw candies everywhere – all you should do is to catch them! Children and adults always try to stand as close as possible to the scene to get more sweets. But that is not the end! For children’s pleasure, different fabulous heroes appear right after the Magi – fairies and elves, good and bad magical creatures.
Don’t miss the chance to celebrate “Los Reyes Magos” in Spain! Both children and adults will get a lot of unforgettable emotions and impressions.
