Summer fountains in “La Granja”

The royal palace “La Granja” was built in 1724 on the order of King Philip V. The residence of the Spanish kings is one hour’s drive from Madrid, and just 13 km from Segovia. The construction of castle continued for the next two decades.

There appeared the beautiful gardens, surrounded by sculptures, statues and fountains based on mythology. For example, here you can see the Fountain of Neptune, Apollo, Andromeda, Three Graces.

As a rule, the fountains start working during Easter Holidays. However, they are especially in summer, when everyone wants to enjoy the pleasant coolness and unusual beauty of show.

The fountains work on the following days: Wednesday – Saturday (from 17.30), Sunday (from 13.00).

The working hours of the fountains vary depending on the day of the week and time of the year. Some of them on even days– 6, 10, 14, 20, 24, 28 day of each month, and the other – vice versa (3 ,7, 13, 17, 21, 27 day of each months).

However, each rules has pleasant exceptions. So, three times a day you can enjoy the beauty of all fountains at once: 30.05, 25.07 and 25.08 (the feast days of San Fernando, Santiago and San Luis respectively). The day of San Luis is also the day when all fountains close.

The cost of visit to the Garden with the fountains is 4 euro.
The visiting of Saturday night fountain Baños de Diana (22.30-23.30) costs 2 euro.

The working hours of the Royal Palace: 10.00-20.00. The cost of visit is 9 euro.

To get to the Royal Palace, drive to the metro station “Moncloa” and take the bus “Madrid – Segovia” (the trip takes about 60 minutes). And when you get to Segovia, take the bus going to “La Granja San Ildefonso”.
