Segovia as a monument of antiquity

Segovia is a monument of antiquity and medieval times. This ancient city is located not far from Madrid. Segovia was founded by the ancient Romans, who once decided to conquer the whole world. Earlier, Segovia used to be the Celtic settlement. It must be said that the countless ancient wars have damaged the city’s beauty. Fortunately, the aqueduct is well preserved. The thing is that Segovia was located on the high rocky plateau. Therefore, the Romans built the pipe that delivered water to the castle. Aqueduct was made of the tightly fitted stone blocks and rises to a height of about 28 meters! It is interesting that the fastening solution wasn’t used in the construction.
Later Segovia was conquered by the Arabs, and then the Spaniards. Segovia was the place of Isabella I, who played a crucial role in the occupation of all Arab territories in the Peninsula. Then one of the last Gothic cathedrals of Europe was built in Segovia. Time passed, and the city gradually lost its importance. Now the most tourists come to Segovia to admire Alcazar– one o the symbols of the great world recognized ancient wall.
