Madrid – the capital of Spain

Spain is a country of resorts, hot sun and good people. You should start exploring Spain with its capital- Madrid.

Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun). This square looks like a broad street. Here you should pay special attention to the red and white building, which is the Government building of Madrid. You will also see a beautiful statue of Carlos II on a horseback and a fountain on the opposite side. And a little further you can contemplate a statue of a bear with an arbutus tree– the symbol of Madrid.

Palacio Real (Royal Palace). This is a residence of Spanish monarchs in Madrid. The present king doesn’t live there; he only visits it on some solemn occasions. This building is huge and beautiful! The palace is open to the public. Here you can see the paintings of such artists as Caravaggio, Goya, Tiepolo and Velazquez, as well as the unique collections of ancient weapon and beautiful violins. If the flag waves over the palace, you can be sure that the king is there now.

Templo de Debod (The Temple of Debod). Madrid received this building as a gift from Egypt for the help of the Spaniards in saving the Egyptian Nubian temples. The water is located around the temple in the same way as it was in Egypt. The age of this building is about 2200 years.

Plaza de Colon (Columbus Square). You can see from the name, who this square is devoted to. In its center you can see the gardens “discovery of America”. On the one side you can find a monument to the great explorer, and on the other- the blocks, reflecting the deeds of Columbus. You should also visit the Cultural Center of Madrid, located in the same square.

Iglesia de San Antonio (The Church of San Antonio). This edifice was built by Italian architect. The church is a valuable museum and a national monument! Here you can find not only the frescoes; the church also stores the remains of the famous artist.
Of course, the capital of Spain has many more significant places. To fully understand the culture of this city, you should live there for a while.
