Huelva – the sunny city of Spain

A few years ago, Huelva was called the sunniest city of Spain due to almost constant sunlight throughout a year. The country where the sun is one of the main tourist attractions, can’t go unnoticed. Besides, Huelva is closely related to the discovery of America, mainly because Columbus (whose expedition in search of India started from here) was born not far from this city.

Replica of Columbus’s caravelle

One of the symbols of Huelva, closely linked to the New World, is a Monument to the Reseacrhers– 37-m statue that pays tribute to Columbus, Aztecs, Incas, Maya and Christians, located at the confluence of the rivers Tinto and Odiel. Although the other cities, such as Cadiz and Sevilla benefit significantly from the richness of America, Huelva is proud of its modest heritage, nature and cuisine. This city is also famous for its religious events, inseparable from the local culture. The pilgrimage to El Rocia and Holy Week are two unique holidays no one tourist should miss.

National Park Doñana

During a visit to Huelva, you will visit the famous beaches Costa de la Luz, Nueva Umbria or Almonte, leading to the national park Doñana – natural protected area, where thousands of species of rare animals live in the everglades, at the delta of Guadalquivir River. Here you can also admire the wonderful sunsets, one of the most beautiful in Spain.

Quarters of the old city

Huelva is famous not only for its unique nature. The old city, destroyed by the powerful earthquake that happened in the eighteenth century in Lissabon, was recently restored. It offers the tourists the whole series of priceless works of art. Railway station, Big Theater, Casa de Colon and Cathedral de la Merced never cease to surprise their visitors.

Huelva is one of the least known cities of Andalusia. However, it is certainly worthy of your attention.
