As elsewhere in the world, in Spain Easter is one of the most significant and solemn holidays, as it is the day of resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, all countries have their own traditions of celebrating this event. For example, in Spain the Holy Week is called “Semana Santa”. At this time, thousands of tourists from all over the world come to Spain. And for good reason, as the celebration is very joyful and interesting.

There are great ceremonial processions everywhere- from morning till night. All participants (playing the “penitent sinners”) wear the pointed hats with small eye holes. Usually, women wear black clothes and bear candles in their hands. The procession are prepared in advance and accompanied by music and songs. The procession is very solemn and impress all the viewers.

Easter in Spain is very interesting and exciting holiday for both children and adults. Kids get chocolate eggs and rabbits and baskets of sweets and help adults to paint eggs and bake cakes. In the street the children can see scenes based on the biblical motives and get the sweet presents from the participant of processions.

Telling about the traditions of celebrating Easter in Spain, we can’t ignore the festive treat. The main Easter dishes are “torrijas” (toasts, soaked in milk and wine) and “mona de Pascua” (Easter cake, symbolizing the end of fasting).
