The brand “Zara”: Spanish success story
Now, “Zara” is a world-famous brand that needs no introduction. The clothes from “Zara” finds more and more new fans all over the world, and its sale geography expands every day by conquering the new markets. “Spanish success story”- that was the definition of Zara’s activity from CNN. We wonder, what caused such popularity?
It turns out that this brand (which means “gold” in Persian) appeared in 1975, when the first Zara shop was opened on the main street of large Spanish city called La Coruña. (Besides, the head office of the company is still located in this city). Zara was founded by Amancio Ortega. It is interesting that the first shop sold not Zara’s clothes, but the copies of famous fashion houses at a low price. But soon, the new Zara shops started to open across Spain. In the 10 years since the appearance of the first shop, Ortega managed to open about 100 boutiques.
The company has a special work strategy. The speed of preparing the new clothing lines from “Zara” is legendary. Some claim that the design sketches turn into the sold clothing line im just two weeks (while it usually takes the fashion designers 6 months). However, “Zara” doesn’t have such limitations. The speed of releasing the new Zara’s clothes is also impressive: more than 10 000 new designs a year! Not for nothing the production system, invented by Ortega, is studied even in Harvard. It is absolutely unique and allows selling high-quality goods at reasonable prices.
The assortment of “Zara” is constantly expanding. Now you can buy the women’s, men’s and children’s clothes, underwear, accessories, perfumes and shoes from Zara. Of course, the concept of the company, creating (according to its founder) “instant fashion”, had been very successful. You can see it by making purchases in Zara shops. Today, more and more customers buy Zara’s clothes online, which is very comfortable. You can make it on the web-site of Zara or the pages of intermediaries.
Today, the company’s “father” Amancio Ortega is on the list of the wealthiest Spaniards, which is yet another demonstration of the company’s success. Moreover, Ortega owns the group of companies “Inditex Group”, whose leading trade network is “Zara”. The co-owner of the brand “Zara” was the ex-wife of Amancio Ortega, the businesswoman Rosalia Mera (who died in 2013). Former seamstress and model, she made a great fortune (almost 7 billions of dollars). Rosalia Mera was considered the richest woman in Spain.
Such is a “Spanish success story”, based on perseverance, hard work, faith and experience of its founder, who made his way from a simple seller of clothing to the owner of the group of companies.
