In medieval times, all buildings surrounding the square were made of wood. After another fire, it was decided to rebuild everything. In 1790, the famous architect Juan de Villanueva was engaged in its reconstruction. He developed the project, according to which all the stone houses were interconnected on a square. There were also special arches for the passage. This square is always crowded, as the tourists love this place.
